• Aderbal Duarte was born in Boa Nova, southwest of Bahia, in 1949. He is a conducter, composer, arranger, guitarist, and music teacher. He graduated in Composition and Conducting by the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) in 1980. Son of a family of musicians, in his childhood started his music education, listening among others, Pixinguinha, Ataulfo Alves, Noel Rosa e Luiz Gonzaga and, later, Caymmi, João Gilberto, Tom Jobim and Baden Powell.

• In 1995 he conducted the Symphonic Orchestra of the Federal University of Bahia, during the XIII International Seminary of Music of UFBA, which happened in Salvador. In the program, he interpreted his own arrangements for Stone Flower, by Tom Jobim, and his own compositions. Along with Sérgio Souto and Thomas Gruetzmacher, he created a band called Sexteto do Beco, in 1978, and the Academia Música Atual (AMA). The band, which used to be composed of 16 musicians, was a laboratory for Aderbal’s arrangements. From this experience, that resulted in many shows, was created the record Sexteto do Beco (1980), which included his song Flutuando, that was recorded two times in Europe, where it is played regularly.

• Creator and interpreter of arrangements for guitar of Bossa Nova classics, Aderbal Duarte is a researcher and studious of João Gilberto's work. Teacher of the Colégio Estadual Deputado Manoel Novaes, in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, where he is implanting a course of functional harmony, pioneer in the bahian public education, is also adviser of the Education Office of Bahia. He is a member of the group of the Anísio Teixeira Institute which develops the project Viver a Escola.

• Aderbal Duarte nasceu em Boa Nova, sudoeste da Bahia, em 1949. É maestro, compositor, arranjador, violonista e professor de música. Formou-se em Composição e Regência pela Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA) em 1980. Filho de uma família de músicos, na infância começou a sua formação musical, ouvindo, entre outros, Pixinguinha, Ataulfo Alves, Noel Rosa e Luiz Gonzaga. A estes juntaram-se Caymmi, João Gilberto, Tom Jobim e Baden Powell.

• Em 1995 regeu a Orquestra Sinfônica da Universidade Federal da Bahia, durante o XIII Seminário Internacional de Música da UFBA, realizado em Salvador. No programa, interpretou arranjos próprios para Quebra-pedra (Stone flower), de Tom Jobim, e músicas de sua autoria. Com Sérgio Souto e Thomas Gruetzmacher, criou a banda Sexteto do Beco, em 1978, e a Academia Música Atual (AMA). A banda, que costumava se apresentar com 16 músicos , foi um laboratório para os arranjos de Aderbal. Dessa experiência, que resultou em diversos shows, nasceu o disco Sexteto do Beco (1980), que inclui sua música Flutuando, a qual já foi gravada duas vezes na Europa, onde é tocada regularmente.

• Criador e intérprete de arranjos para violão de clássicos da Bossa Nova, Aderbal Duarte é pesquisador e estudioso da obra de João Gilberto. Professor no Colégio Estadual Deputado Manoel Novaes, em Salvador, onde está implantando um curso de harmonia funcional, pioneiro na rede pública baiana de ensino, é também consultor da Secretaria da Educação do Estado da Bahia. Participa da equipe do Instituto Anísio Teixeira que desenvolve o projeto Viver a Escola.
